Common Sanyo Faults & Fixes
Sanyo projectors are synonymous with 3LCD technology. Over tens of thousands of hours, the organic components inside naturally degrade due to intense UV light and heat generation.
Polariser Burn (Yellow)
The blue polarising plate absorbs the most energy from the lamp. Over time, it burns, leaving a permanent yellow or pink hue on the projected image. We strip the optical engine and replace the burnt filters.
Internal Dust Blobs
Fuzzy, out-of-focus coloured circles appear on dark scenes. This is dust that has bypassed the filter and settled directly onto the LCD panels. We perform ultrasonic cleaning to restore image clarity.
Thermal Shutdowns
If the "Warning" light flashes red and the unit turns off, the internal temperature is too high. This is usually caused by a blocked air filter or a failing exhaust fan. A deep clean and fan replacement restores it.
Ballast / Power Failure
If the unit is completely dead or clicks multiple times without the lamp striking, the primary PSU or high-voltage ballast has failed. We use micro-soldering to repair these boards at the component level.
Technician's Note: Although Sanyo's projector division was absorbed by Panasonic, these units are incredibly durable. We maintain a vast stock of compatible OEM parts to keep these classic workhorses running and save you the high cost of a full venue upgrade.
Sanyo Error Code Database
Sanyo projectors use the POWER, WARNING, and LAMP REPLACE LEDs to signal specific faults.
| LED Indicator State | Indicated Fault | Engineer's Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
|
WARNING: Flashing Red
|
Abnormal Temperature | The unit is overheating. Check the air filter. If the filter is clean and it still flashes, a cooling fan has seized or the thermal sensor is faulty. |
|
WARNING: Solid Red
|
Lamp Cover Error | The lamp door is not seated correctly, triggering the safety microswitch. Ensure the door is screwed down tightly. |
|
LAMP REPLACE: Solid
|
Lamp Timer Expired | The lamp has reached the end of its designated life. Replace the lamp and reset the timer in the menu. |
|
POWER: Solid Red (No Start)
|
Power / Ballast Failure | If the unit clicks but the lamp doesn't strike, the ballast has failed. If it is completely dead (no lights), the primary PSU has blown. |

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the 'Warning' light flashing red on my Sanyo?
A flashing red Warning LED indicates the internal temperature is abnormally high. This is almost always caused by a blocked air filter or a seized intake fan. The projector shuts down to prevent the LCD panels from melting.
My Sanyo image has a permanent yellow stain. Is it the bulb?
No. This is known as 'Polariser Burn'. Heat and UV light from the lamp have degraded the blue polarising filter inside the optical engine. We can replace these burnt filters to restore your white balance.
Do you still repair Sanyo projectors now that they are discontinued?
Yes. While Panasonic acquired Sanyo's projector division years ago, we maintain a vast stock of compatible OEM parts, fans, and polarisers to keep these incredibly durable legacy units running.
Free Projector Recycling
Is your legacy Sanyo projector beyond economical repair? Don't send it to landfill. We offer a completely free, eco-friendly recycling service. We safely extract hazardous mercury from old UHP lamps and ensure zero-to-landfill processing for plastics and metals.
Recycle NowDon't Throw It Away.
A flashing warning light or yellow screen does not mean your Sanyo is dead. A professional optical block refurbishment or fan replacement costs a fraction of upgrading your entire venue.
