Common Acer Faults & Fixes
Acer is a massive player in the DLP (Digital Light Processing) market. Their technology delivers excellent contrast and sharpness, but the high-speed mechanical components and dense heat generation lead to highly specific failure patterns.
White Dots (DMD Chip)
The "Starry Night" effect. Heat stress causes the microscopic mirrors on the Texas Instruments DLP chip to seize. The image becomes covered in permanent white or black dots. We replace the DMD chip and upgrade the thermal pads.
Colour Wheel Whine
Acer's ColorBoost3D technology relies on a high-speed spinning colour wheel. When the bearing dries out, it creates a loud, high-pitched whine that eventually leads to shattering. We replace the full wheel assembly.
Thermal Shutdowns
If the projector turns off after 5 minutes and flashes the Temp light, internal airflow is restricted. We perform a complete ultrasonic clean of the chassis, fans, and heatsinks to restore critical thermal flow.
Ballast / No Ignition
A "clicking" noise with no light indicates a high-voltage ballast failure, whereas a completely dead unit points to the primary PSU. We perform component-level micro-soldering to revive these boards.
Predator & Gaming Warning: Gaming models (like the Predator series) push their DMD chips extremely hard to achieve 120Hz/240Hz refresh rates. They generate immense heat. If you use "High Altitude" mode to increase fan speed, it can help, but it will not fix an already whining colour wheel or a failing DMD chip.
Acer Error Code Database
Acer projectors utilise a combination of the POWER, TEMP, and LAMP LED lights to communicate hardware faults.
| LED Indicator State | Indicated Fault | Engineer's Recommendation |
|---|---|---|
|
Temp: Red Solid
Power: Blue Solid
|
Overheating Shutdown | The internal thermal sensors detect excessive heat. Let it cool. If it happens repeatedly within 10 minutes, an internal fan has likely seized or degraded. |
|
Lamp: Red Solid
Power: Blue Solid
|
Lamp / Ballast Error | The projector cannot strike the lamp arc. First, ensure the lamp door is screwed on tightly (it presses a safety switch). If tight, the bulb is blown or the ballast board has failed. |
|
Temp: Flashing Red
Power: Blue Solid
|
Fan Lock Failure | A critical cooling fan is not spinning. The unit instantly cuts power to the lamp to prevent a fire hazard. The faulty fan must be identified and replaced. |
|
Lamp: Flashing Red
Temp: Flashing Red
|
Colour Wheel Failure | The optical sensor cannot read the index mark on the colour wheel. The wheel is either stuck, spinning at the wrong speed, or shattered. Requires immediate repair. |
| Completely Dead | Main Power Supply (PSU) | No standby lights whatsoever. A power surge has likely blown the internal ceramic fuse or bridge rectifier. We perform component-level soldering to revive the board. |

Free Projector Recycling
Is your legacy Acer projector beyond economical repair? Don't send it to landfill. We offer a completely free, eco-friendly recycling service. We safely extract hazardous mercury from old UHP lamps and ensure zero-to-landfill processing for plastics and metals.
Recycle NowDon't Throw It Away.
A noisy colour wheel or white dots on the screen do not mean your Acer is dead. A professional component replacement costs a fraction of upgrading to a new 4K unit.
