Optical Engine Restoration

Projector Image
Discolouration Repair.

Fix yellow tints, pink screens, blurry edges, and fuzzy dust blobs. We specialise in rebuilding 3LCD, SXRD, and LCoS optical blocks to restore pristine colour accuracy and contrast.

science Optical Degradation

Why Do Images Discolour?

Unlike DLP projectors which suffer from "White Dots", 3LCD and LCoS projectors use polarising filters and liquid crystal panels. Heat and intense UV light physically degrade these delicate optics over thousands of hours.

gradient

Polariser Burn

The most common fault in Epson, Panasonic, and Hitachi 3LCD units. The blue or green organic polarising films literally "burn" from heat exposure, leaving a permanent yellow or magenta blob in the centre of the screen.

contrast

Gamma Drift (SXRD)

High-end Sony and JVC projectors use LCoS/SXRD panels. Over time, these panels lose their ability to fully block light. Contrast drops drastically, blacks look grey, and the image takes on a washed-out bluish tint.

blur_circular

Dust Blobs

If you see out-of-focus, fuzzy coloured circles (often green or pink) on dark scenes, dust has bypassed the filter and settled directly onto the LCD panels inside the optical block. Standard lens cleaning will not fix this.

filter_center_focus

Convergence Shift

If text looks blurry and has red or green shadows (colour fringing), the Red, Green, and Blue panels are no longer perfectly aligned. A mechanical shock or thermal expansion has shifted the internal prism.

info

Important: None of these issues indicate a failing lamp/bulb. Replacing the lamp will only make the discolouration brighter and more obvious. The projector requires a professional strip-down and optical engine refurbishment.

These high-end reflective panels deliver the best native contrast in the world. When contrast degrades (Gamma Drift), we utilise proprietary manufacturer software to rewrite the internal voltage tables and realign the panels.

Pro AV & Large Venue

High-end 3-Chip DLP systems do not use colour wheels. Instead, they use three dedicated DMD chips bonded to a prism. If a chip fails here, you see coloured dots (e.g., magenta pixels). We replace the faulty channel and perform mechanical convergence.

Frequently Asked Questions

contact_support Why is there a yellow or pink stain on my projector screen?

This is typically caused by 'Polariser Burn'. In 3LCD projectors, intense UV light and heat degrade the organic polarising filters over time. When the blue polariser burns, it leaves a yellow tint. When the green burns, it leaves a magenta/pink tint. We rebuild the optical engine with new filters to fix this.

contact_support What are the fuzzy green or pink circles on my image?

These are known as 'Dust Blobs'. Dust particles have bypassed the air filter and settled directly onto the internal LCD panels or prisms within the optical engine. Because they are out of focus, they appear as large, fuzzy, coloured circles. We perform a deep ultrasonic clean of the sealed optical path to remove them.

contact_support My Sony projector's contrast looks washed out and bluish. Can it be fixed?

This is a known issue with SXRD and LCoS optical blocks, often referred to as 'Gamma Drift' or panel degradation. Over time, the panels lose their ability to block light effectively, ruining black levels. We can perform optical block refurbishment and advanced software gamma recalibration to restore image depth.

Don't Throw It Away.

A yellow stain or dust blobs do not mean your projector is dead. A full optical engine rebuild and deep clean typically costs a fraction of the price of a new high-brightness 3LCD or SXRD unit.
