White Dots on Your Projector Screen? DMD Chip Failure Explained
White or black dots appearing on your projected image are the classic symptom of DMD chip failure. This is one of the most common faults we see in DLP projectors, and it affects models from every major manufacturer.
What Is a DMD Chip?
The DMD (Digital Micromirror Device) chip contains millions of microscopic mirrors — each one representing a single pixel. When individual mirrors fail, they become stuck in either the on or off position, resulting in white or black dots.
What Causes DMD Chip Failure?
The primary cause is thermal stress. Poor ventilation, blocked air filters, and extended continuous use all accelerate the process. Dust infiltration is another major contributor.
